Poultry and animal husbandry needs large amounts of calcium, because eggshells and bones are composed of Calcium Carbonate. Calcium requirement for animals is also high because of their rapid growth. In egg laying birds as the age of the hen increases, the thickness of the shell usually declines. The hen looses some of her ability to mobilize calcium from the bone, and is less able to produce the needed calcium carbonate. The absorption of calcium decreases to less than 50% of normal after 40 weeks of age. The thickness of the shell also depends on the amount of time the egg spends in the uterus and the rate of calcium deposition during shell formation. Most of the calcium fed through supplemented feeds is absorbed by paracellular passive diffusion in the small intestinal. The absorption is also influenced by the quantity of intestinal calcium bounded to fats and proteins. All the above factors can be dealt by inclusion of BIOGENIC CALCIUM along with raw calcium phosphates or carbonates. BIOGENIC CALCIUM has 40% calcium in available form and is also influenced by presence of vitamin D3. This Vitamin D3 is vital for absorption and mobilization of calcium during shell synthesis. The effect is facilitated by the synthesis of calcium binding protein (CBP). The function of D3 is also related to its metabolite 1, 25 dihydroxy D3 that is formed in birds liver and kidneys. The other advantage of BIOGENIC CALCIUM is the presence of aluminum silicates, which improves specific gravity of the egg by 40% and also promotes feed conversion. Presence of Zinc, Manganese and Copper in BIOGENIC CALCIUM also results in formation of strong shell.
